The next big thing in platform lifts Platform lifts are well-established in the market but also have size limitations. Axess 4 All faced this challenge at Cardiff University's chemistry building, which required a lift larger than the standard 1,100mm wide x 1,500mm platform to transport chemistry trolleys safely. A conventional passenger lift was also unsuitable, so the large capacity Axess 4 All A8000 was specified, providing the benefits of a platform lift with a small recess and no over travel but with a platform length of 2,480mm long... |

Smoke & Access general awareness You already know the importance of meeting minimum standards for smoke ventilation. Whitesales' all-new smoke vent rooflights extract smoke and fumes faster and more effectively. The Em-Vent is an automatic smoke vent rooflight that opens to 160° in less than 60 seconds. So the intense heat of a fire is kept in check and the potentially fatal smoke buildup doesn't happen... |

Easing the Strain Users of Marflow Hydronics' Filterball are increasingly finding that the valve is taking the strain out of cleaning and maintaining a water distribution system. For a long time there's been a belief that strainers improve water quality, whereas in reality, without a proper maintenance schedule, their use can actually cause water quality to decline. Furthermore, even if they are regularly checked, if the right products aren't used alongside them, then air in the system could become another major issue... |

Flow controls bring much-needed flood relief in Telford An ingenious drainage scheme has provided much-needed relief to a flood-prone Telford community. Engineers used complex vortex flow control technology to solve a difficult problem, maximising the storage volumes available to keep within flood protection limits. The existing drainage scheme in a part of Wellington, between the M54 and A5, was failing to prevent flooding through a nearby recent housing development. The site along Limekiln Lane takes catchment from The Wrekin and Ercall hills and excess surface water runoff from the M54... |
